SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA
Evergy S.T.E.A.M. Scholarship
The Wichita (KS) Chapter of the Links, Inc., Presents the Evergy STEAM Scholarship. Evergy is investing in the higher education of Kansas’ next generation! In partnership with Evergy, The Wichita (KS) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated would like to offer educational scholarships to recognize and encourage the continuing education of Kansas students pursuing STEAM degrees. We are proud to award two (2) $5,000 one-time scholarships to Wichita area High School Seniors who display academic excellence and community leadership. We will accept Scholarship Applications between February 16, 2026, through March 31, 2026.

Guidelines: Evergy Scholarships Applicant must be a high school senior of African American descent, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and live in the Greater Wichita Region. We will offer one-time scholarships awarded to students pursuing STEAM degrees entering post-secondary education. The scholarships are merit-based with consideration given to academic record, leadership, and participation in school and/or community activities, a 30-second self-introduction video and an essay of the student’s STEAM educational and career goals as outlined in the prompts below. Applicant must enroll as a student at an institution of higher education in the 2026-2027 academic school year.
Essay Prompts: ​ In a well-organized essay, reflect on your personal journey and interest in S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). Describe the experiences that first sparked your curiosity in STEAM and explain how those experiences have shaped your academic and career goals. Discuss how organizations like the Wichita (KS) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated play a critical role in developing future leaders and how earning this scholarship will support you in reaching those goals. Finally, share how you plan to use your S.T.E.A.M. knowledge and skills to make a meaningful impact in Kansas communities.

​Scholarship Video Prompt: Please provide a 30 second self-introduction video to be included in your packet. Best tips for success: Start with a greeting, state your name clearly, share background/interests, and end with a friendly note and smile.

The Wichita (KS) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, has proudly served the Greater Wichita community for more than 50 years through impactful youth-focused programs. Guided by The Links’ mission to enrich communities and enhance the quality of life for people of African descent through friendship and service, we are honored to present the Heart of the Community Scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship recognizes high school students who uplift, inspire, and strengthen their communities through meaningful service.

Guidelines: Heart of the Community Scholarship Applicants must be a high school senior of African American descent, have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, and live in the Greater Wichita Region. We will offer one-time scholarships awarded to students who are entering post-secondary education. The scholarships are merit-based with consideration given to academic record, leadership, and participation in school and community activities, and a 2-minute video responding to the scholarship video prompt below. Applicants must enroll as a student at an institution of higher education in the 2026-2027 academic school year.

Scholarship Video Prompt: Describe how you currently contribute to your community, discuss the importance of organizations such as The Links, Incorporated in supporting community development, and explain how you plan to make a positive impact in Kansas after graduation based on your chosen degree. Please include your full name, the name of your high school, your academic year, and the name of the institution of higher education you will attend in the fall.

Guidelines: Keep it Moving Scholarship Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited institution of higher education. Applicants must be of African American descent who have previously participated in youth-serving programs or a past scholarship recipient of the Wichita (KS) Chapter of Links, Incorporated. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and use scholarship funds to continue their degree. The scholarships are merit-based with consideration given to academic record, leadership, and participation in school and/or community activities, and a 2-minute video responding to the scholarship video prompt below.
